what is it?
this plug allows you to reduce the range of possible values for each channel, reducing the total number of possible colors in the clip. you can reduce the range of colors separately for each channel, allowing you, for example, to use the full range of colors in red and green, while only allowing two colors for blue.
what should i use it for?
flatten channel is a highly specialized color effect plug, to be used whenever you want to limit the range of colors in your clips. it will make the clip look grainier, and somewhat more artificial.
note that even if you limit the colors to eight, the resulting clip will still be rendered in millions of colors (flatten color will not be able to reduce the size of the clip).
area of effect:
define the area of the clip you want to be affected by the plug-in. all other parts of the clip remain untouched.
red, green, blue sliders:
use these sliders to limit the amount of levels per channel. the effect works by limiting the amount of bits per channel. Settings are 1 bit (two levels), 2 bits (four levels), 3 bits (8 levels), 4 (16 levels), 5 (32 levels), 6 (64 levels), 7 (128 levels), and 8 (full, 256 levels).
